First identification of Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolates producing a KPC-type carbapenem-hydrolyzing beta-lactamase / Jaime Alberto López Vargas
Título : First identification of Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolates producing a KPC-type carbapenem-hydrolyzing beta-lactamase Tipo de documento : documento electrónico Autores : Jaime Alberto López Vargas, Fecha de publicación : 2007 Títulos uniformes : Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy Idioma : Inglés (eng) Resumen : In Medellin, Colombia, three Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolates with high-level carbapenem resistance (MIC>or=256 microg/ml) and an isolate of Citrobacter freundii with reduced susceptibility to imipenem produced the plasmid-mediated class A carbapenemase KPC-2. This is the first report of a KPC-type beta-lactamase identified outside of the family Enterobacteriaceae. Título : First detection of the plasmid-mediated class A carbapenemase KPC-2 in clinical isolates of Klebsiella pneumoniae from South America Tipo de documento : documento electrónico Autores : Jaime Alberto López Vargas, Fecha de publicación : 2006 Títulos uniformes : Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy Idioma : Inglés (eng) Resumen : The plasmid-mediated class A carbapenemase KPC-2 was isolated from unrelated Klebsiella pneumonia isolates in Medellin, Colombia. These KPC enzymes are the first from South America and the second isolation outside of the United States. The expanding geographic spread of KPC carbapenemases underscores the importance of clinical recognition of these enzymes. Título : In vitro susceptibility testing of Paracoccidioides brasiliensis to sulfonamides Tipo de documento : documento electrónico Autores : Ángela Restrepo Moreno, ; María D. Arango, Fecha de publicación : 1980 Títulos uniformes : Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy Idioma : Inglés (eng) Resumen : A total of 60 clinical isolates of Paracoccidioides brasiliensis were tested for susceptibility to sulfadiazine and sulfadimethoxyne by the agar dilution technique. A modification of the Mueller-Hinton medium was devised which gave good growth of the yeast form. The minimum inhibitory concentrations for only 51.6% of the isolates were in the range of the recommended blood serum concentration (50 micrograms/ml). For 6 to 8% of the isolates, the minimum inhibitory concentrations were above 200 micrograms of both sulfadiazine and sulfadimethoxyne per ml. A significant decreases in susceptibility was demonstrated for one isolate obtained from a patient relapsing during sulfonamide therapy.
